The Convergence

The creative process was grounded in research and community engagement, ensuring the design reflected Columbia’s rich past while embracing the vibrant present of the Vista.

The Story
Located in Columbia, South Carolina, this mural celebrates the city’s rich history, quiet resilience, and vibrant cultural spirit. Drawing inspiration from archival materials, I brought together a 1900s map of downtown Columbia, a train conductor honoring the city’s industrial roots, and a portrait of Laura Spong—paying tribute to her artistic contributions and her lasting influence on future generations.

The design grew out of careful research and genuine conversations with the community. It reflects Columbia’s layered past while embracing the lively energy of the Vista, a thriving hub of art and culture. Every element was shaped to tell a story of perseverance, growth, and shared purpose that defines the city.

Commissioned by a client whose vision and passion guided the work, the mural earned the heartfelt response that it “exceeded all expectations”—a reflection of the trust and collaboration at its core.

For me, this project captures the true power of public art: to honor collective memory, spark connection, and inspire people to see their community—and its future—with fresh eyes.
